The process of producing prescription spectacle lenses requires a diamond tool turning process to achieve the required shape and power of the lens. The turning machine for this process is usually called a “generator” and is supplied by several global machine brands that come with different tool-to- machine interfaces. To achieve a successful and cost-efficient spectacle lens turning process the quality and the wear resistance of the cutting tool is key.
Contour works in close collaboration with most global machine tool brands and is thereby able to offer the full range of diamond tool radius sizes and geometries for your spectacle lens turning process on a wide range of diamond carriers to fit your machine interface. We has been working on optimizing our tool production process since the 1980s and deliver tools with strong diamond brazing adhesion, tight radius tolerances and a number of diamond grades with long and predictable tool life.
The diamond tooling usage in contact lenses production is either from a direct lathing process or form-pressed from a lathed contact lens pin (mold). Regardless of process the turning machine accuracy and the diamond tool radius tolerance is critical to achieving desired quality of contact lenses. Contour is working in close collaboration with the leading machine tool brands of contact lens turning and is able to offer all required tool specifications for your turning operation.
The diamond tooling usage in intra-ocular lens production is either from a direct lathing process or form-pressed from a lathed contact lens pin (mold). Regardless of process the turning machine accuracy and the diamond tool radius tolerance is critical to achieving desired quality of contact lenses. In addition, to minimize tooling costs per lens an efficient machining process of the lens haptics is required. Contour is working in close collaboration with the leading machine tool brands of intra-ocular lens turning as well as haptic milling operations and is able to offer all required tool specifications for your turning operation.
